Font Conference
If this video were crafted from a recipe, it would take two parts humor, three parts imagination, and five parts typography! The video opens in a large conference room, where we are introduced to the first typeface: Times New Roman.
He has addressed an issue of concern regarding the acceptance for the upcoming typeface Zapf Dingbats. As he begins to confer with the audience, clever uses of certain font choice are revealed. Some of the funniest include French Script, modeled by a young French male in a striped shirt and beret, as well as Baskerville Old Face, who is shown as an old man appropriately amidst an argument with Bookman Old Style.
As the plot nears its climax, the audience is struck by the sight of Ransom who has taken hold of Courier. The only way to stop these fonts from becoming “Sans-Serif” is to make sure Ransom has primary placement in every word processor. However in the end, Comic Sans, modeled after the classic cartoon superhero, saves the day. The events of this story unfold to produce one of the most creative comedies of the time.
Personal Review
Having been a computer lover, I was immediately drawn to this video- simply by its name! The creative use of word play creates a storyline driven seamlessly by humor. It is clear that this video was well thought out, and executed prominently.
The overall look and feel of this movie is astounding- having a wide range of camera angles that flow with the overall course of action. After having viewed this video multiple times, it is safe to say I will not look at typefaces the same way! If you get the chance, this video is a must see!
